Should you drift it
A stock Surly Midnight Special with Shimano 105 typically retails around $2,300 brand new and fetches $1,600 to $1,800 on the NYC secondary market. While the package includes additional gear like a Giro helmet, shoes, floor pump, and saddle bag, used gear carries minimal resale markup. At $2,499, the asking price exceeds original retail for the bike itself, making it overpriced despite the excellent condition. Recent secondary market listings for like-new stock Shimano 105 Surly Midnight Special models range from $1,600 to $1,800 on regional platforms. Applying an NYC urban market adjustment keeps fair market value around $1,700 for the base bike. Reconciling with the bundled accessories confirms they add minimal resale value, leaving the $2,499 asking price well above reasonable market rates.
