Drivetrain rust and service needed A functional Retrospec single-speed carries a base value around $150 in the local NYC market. Visible surface rust on the drivetrain and hardware requires $40 in service and cleaning deductions, balanced by $15 in added value from the Kryptonite U-lock. This places the estimated market value right at the $125 asking price. Recent NYC Craigslist listings for used Retrospec single-speed commuters range from $100 to $125, slightly above national averages of $80 to $100 for bikes in fair condition. Factoring in typical cosmetic scuffs and expected wear on the chain or brake pads, the estimated NYC market value settles at $110.
